Get Your Deep Creek Lake Home Ready to Sell This Spring!

If you’re planning on selling your Deep Creek Lake home this spring, you’ll want to begin now with getting it ready to go on the Deep Creek Lake Real Estate market.  Although it may not feel completely like spring yet, it’s just around the corner and with this being one of the busiest season for buyers and sellers; you’ll want to get a jump start on prepping your home for sale.
As Deep Creek Real Estate agents for many years with Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty; we can assure you that the competition between sellers can be tough especially in our current buyers’ market.  You’ll want to do everything you can to make your home stand out from other Deep Creek Lake homes on the market.
We understand that selling your Deep Creek Lake home can sound like a stressful process, but if you take some time to get your home in tip top shape and have a trusted Deep Creek Real Estate agent by your side; we’re confident your home can sell in an efficient and timely manner.  Below are ten easy tips for getting your home ready to sell this spring!
1. Examine your Front Door: Deep Creek Lake winters, as well as wear and tear from use, can leave front doors looking dingy and weak. Replacing doors with a more energy efficient door looks great and saves money on heating and air. Don’t want to spend a lot? A simple paint job will give your old door an updated and refreshed look.
2. Clean Gutters: Gutters are a breeding ground for insects, mold, mildew and algae spores that can enter your attic and allow biological growths to enter your Deep Creek Lake home. Scoop out debris and run water down the gutter with a hose. Invest in a gutter cap or screen. Scrub out the inside with a gutter brush.
3. Check the Foundation: Inspect the foundation of your Deep Creek Lake home for large cracks and shifts in the blocks. Seal large cracks and gaps between the foundation and concrete/earth and directly on the concrete.
4. De-Clutter: It’s easy to collect things in your home during the winter months, but spring is all about having a fresh start!  Take time to evaluate the things you really need to keep and those things that you can part with.  Then, establish an organization system.  Hardware stores offer a range of affordable shelving solutions.
5. Check the Basement: Scan everything in the basement of your Deep Creek Lake home.  Check the water and sewer pipes for leaks, mold and tearing and pests. Address problems immediately either with a water vacuum, dehumidifier or new gutter drains. Drain sediment from hot water heaters and change your furnace filter.
6. Clean the Deck: Warm weather in the Deep Creek Lake area area means spending a lot of time outdoors on your home’s deck or patio!  You want this area of your home to really shine and reflect how you care for your home.  Remove grime, pollen, fungus and mildew by scrubbing the surface with a deck or patio cleanser.  Of course you’ll also want to brush off your outdoor furniture and create the living space that you’ll enjoy for months to come!
7. Get Rid of Mold: Examine your ceilings, attic, walls and bathrooms. If you do notice mold, you must identify the source of the mold before repainting. Ask a local contractor for help. When you are ready to repaint, use mold growth inhibitor paint made for high moisture areas.
8. Exterior Paint: Carefully scrape, prime and paint peeling spots on trim or woodwork. You'll protect wood against summer's heat and moisture and prevent a more difficult paint job come fall.
9. Reseal: Caulk and other sealants safeguard your home against rain and snow at vulnerable points such as cracks and open joints. Winter can rip caulk apart. Scrape out old caulk using a painter's five-in-one tool. Clean and disinfect with one-part liquid chlorine bleach in three parts warm water.
10. Add some green: The first thing guests notice when approaching your Deep Creek Lake home is color, light and symmetry. When adding new shrubbery, keep it symmetrical. Change outdoor light bulbs to energy efficient bulbs. It is amazing what some flowers, light and fresh paint can accomplish in your home on Deep Creek Lake!
We hope that as you think of selling your Deep Creek Lake homes this spring, these ten tips will help!  Buyers want to see that your Deep Creek Lake home is fresh and move in ready.
As always, we’re here to help!  Whether you want to know more about the current Deep Creek Lake Real Estate market, want to learn more about the home selling process or are searching for a Deep Creek Lake Real Estate agent to get your home sold; we can help!

Retire Mortgage Free on Deep Creek Lake!

As Deep Creek Lake Real Estate agents here at Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty, we’ve helped many people find their dream home on Deep Creek Lake.  While people search for a home on Deep Creek Lake for a variety of reasons, one of the main purposes is to find that ideal setting in which to retire.
If you imagine spending your post career days taking in breathtaking lake views, soaking up sun on your deck, embarking on leisurely hikes through nature and being a part of a great community; Deep Creek Lake is the obvious choice!
While relocating to Deep Creek Lake may be high on your wish list, the idea of taking on a new mortgage, especially if your current home is payed off, can be the thing that’s holding you back.  However, the wide variety of perfectly priced homes on Deep Creek Lake and a few key tips listed below can help you settle into retirement without a mortgage!  Take a few minutes to review these three basic tips that can help you become mortgage free in no time!
1. Make Extra Mortgage Payments- It may seem insignificant to tack on an extra $100 a month, but over time it can amount to major savings!  Let’s say you have a $200,000 mortgage at an interest rate of 6% on a 30 year mortgage.  Without taxes and insurance, that will amount to around $1,200 a month, which means you’ll be paying a little over $231,000 in interest.  But, paying an extra $100 a month can save almost $50,000 in interest and you can be done with the loan five and a half years early!
2. Refinance Your Mortgage- If you currently live on Deep Creek Lake, refinancing your home could be one of the best ways to cut costs each month or switch to a shorter term loan.  Many people are considering refinancing due to the historically low interest rates we’ve seen over the past few years, which is great if your goal is to reduce monthly payments.
However, refinancing can also mean switching out your current 30-year mortgage to a 15-year loan.  While you will be paying a little more each month, you’ll find yourself mortgage free much sooner!
3. Downsize Your in Your Deep Creek Lake Home- We all love to have our own space and a home that allows for hosting gatherings and guests.  But, do you need the same amount of space as you did earlier in life?  While you do want to account for friends and family that will want to come visit you in your Deep Creek Lake home; you won’t need a lot of extra space such as a formal dining room or a formal living room.  Downsizing can allow you to find a less expensive home and, if you are selling your current home to relocate to Deep Creek Lake, you could potentially make an all cash offer!
We hope these tips are helpful as you consider your plans for retirement and entering this great time of life mortgage free!  Our team here at Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty is ready to help you through each step of finding and buying a home here on Deep Creek Lake!

Let us put our years of experience to work for you, so you can have a smooth transition to the Deep Creek Lake lifestyle and settling in to the home of your dreams!
We hope to hear from you soon!

Be Financially Prepared to Buy a Deep Creek Lake Home!

As the team here at Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty, we appreciate you taking the time to stop by our blog!  It could be that you’re considering buying a home on Deep Creek Lake in the near future and are seeking out more information about the current Deep Creek Lake Real Estate Market or are looking for a Deep Creek Lake Real Estate agent.  No matter what brings you here; we’re glad you’re taking a few minutes to research before diving in to buying a Deep Creek Lake home.
In fact, in our years of experience, we’ve seen first hand how doing research and being fully prepared prior to beginning your home search can create the best home buying scenario.  One of the ways you can begin to prepare for buying a home on Deep Creek Lake is to make sure your finances are in order.  This is especially true if you’re considering buying a second home as a vacation getaway on Deep Creek Lake!  Taking on a second home is a large decision and one for which you want to be fully prepared.
Below are six great tips you’ll want to take a few minutes to review that will help you get on the right track with your personal finances.  As always, our goal is to provide our clients with the pertinent information they need in order to be successful in the Deep Creek Lake Real Estate market, and these are tips you won’t want to miss!
1. Check your credit report and fix any errors- Did you know that by law, you have the right to a free annual credit report?  This is something you’ll want to take advantage of as it allows you to review your report and correct any errors or outdated information.  If you do happen to find a mistake, you’ll be able to contact the corresponding credit bureau to discuss the discrepancies.
2. Review your budget- Reviewing your monthly budget is imperative before buying a Deep Creek Lake home, especially if you’re investing in a second home.  You’ll want to know exactly how much money you have to work with each month and can cut any unnecessary expenses if needed.  Buying a home is a large financial decision so allowing yourself to cut down frivolous expenses in order to save more is wise.
3. Review your monthly withholdings- You may find that, by reviewing your monthly withholdings, you’re able to save more money or have more cash on hand.  Before you make any changes to your withholdings however, you will want to talk with your trusted tax advisor so you’re not stuck with owing extra money to the IRS at the end of the year.
4.  Review your financial emergency plan- Having an emergency financial plan is almost essential before buying a home.  Most financial advisors would recommend having at least six months worth of expenses saved in case of emergencies.  Not only will this give you peace of mind, but it can provide a solid financial base that you can continue to build upon.
5. Sign up for paperless statements- Being surrounded by the beautiful scenery on Deep Creek Lake can be a constant reminder to care for our environment! While seemingly insignificant, signing up for paperless statements and paying your bills online will add up over time and can save countless trees.
6.   Consolidate accounts- While it can be useful to have various accounts open with your bank for savings, an emergency fund, or other financial goal, it can also get tricky to keep track of which part of your paycheck is going where.  If you are finding it difficult to keep juggle these separate accounts; it’s time to consolidate. Of course you’ll want to check with your financial institution prior to ensure there aren’t any fees for canceling an account, but taking this step can keep your finances better organized.
While some of these tips may seem like small changes, they will help ensure you’re organized, in control and completely ready to begin searching for your dream home on Deep Creek Lake.  We want you to have the best experience possible as you search for and buy a home on Deep Creek Lake, and we’re here whenever you’re ready to get started!
We would love to help you find your new Deep Creek Lake home and settle in to the Deep Creek Lake lifestyle that so many enjoy!
