Fresh Produce Pavillion at the Oakland Town parking lot.  Bring your lawn chairs and snacks and take in the music of The Hillbilly Gypsies.  From West Virginia this traveling group features sounds of bluegrass like you’ve never heard before!  You’ll find they play a variety of old favorites and new hits that will have you tapping your foot as they play into the evening.  Don’t miss this favorite summer series!
23rd Annual Kitzmiller Homecoming
July 22-24
- The nearby town of Kitzmiller is celebrating its 23rd Annual Homecoming this weekend and everyone’s invited!  This great weekend kicks off with a Fireman’s Parade on Friday, July 22 at 6pm on Main Street with a Family Fun Night following the parade.  The festivities continue on Saturday and Sunday with games, inflatable rides, a barbeque chicken dinner sponsored by the Kitzmiller Lion’s Club, horse drawn carriage rides, fireworks and much more!

Discover Alpine Lake Resort Near Deep Creek Lake!

As the team as Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Lake Realty, we enjoy highlighting life on Deep Creek Lake and what makes this area such a great place to vacation, retire or just settle in permanently!  With much to offer on and around Maryland’s largest fresh water lake, we have a hard time finding any place that compares!  However, If you're picturing a vacation or retirement home in our area "at the lake", you've actually got several choices!  In addition to homes at Deep Creek Lake, you may want to consider looking at homes at Alpine Lake Resort, in nearby West Virginia.
Alpine Lake Resort is a 2,300 acre gated community, built around a 148 acre lake fed by springs and wooded mountain streams.  While none of the homes are located directly on the water, many have lake views and all owners have access to the beach and boathouse.  The resort also includes a gorgeous 18-hole golf course which overlooks the lake, a tennis complex, hiking trails, restaurant, lounge, and a 35-room motel which allows many to enjoy even just a weekend getaway to this great resort!
Wondering if there’s as much to do as Deep Creek Lake?  Alpine Lake Resort has an active Property Owners' Association which organizes events such as the annual bluegrass festival, Octoberfest celebration, golf tournaments, and pitch-in dinners.  The community supports its own water and sewer system, which have recently been upgraded, and maintains 27 miles of paved roadway.
This breathtaking resort is located in the rolling and wooded hills immediately west of the Garrett County border with West Virginia, and about 30 minutes from Deep Creek Lake.  Of the 2,323 lots at Alpine, approximately 500 have homes on them, and about 400 people live or work permanently at Alpine Lake.
You’ll enjoy knowing that Alpine Lake was created to enhance, as well as interact, with its natural setting.  It was presented an "Award for Excellence" by the West Virginia Department of Commerce, which cited the community for careful ecological planning in preserving the natural beauty and resources of the area through stringent controls.
The "feel" of Alpine Lake Resort is quieter than Deep Creek Lake as the lake itself is smaller, and allows only electric boat motors.  Home prices are also much lower than Deep Creek Lake prices, making this option even more attractive!  If you have been considering a lake home but are more drawn to a smaller version of Deep Creek Lake; you’ll find Alpine Lake to be a perfect fit!

5 Tips for Buying a Second Home on Deep Creek Lake!

We’re coming off of a great holiday weekend, and for many of you, that meant enjoying all the festivities on Deep Creek Lake!  Whether you were just visiting for the weekend, or have a permanent residence in beautiful Garrett County, I hope you were able to experience the rich lifestyle that Deep Creek Lake offers.


In working with the Deep Creek Lake Real Estate market for many years, I know that even just a weekend spent on Deep Creek Lake can have you envisioning yourself in one of the beautiful homes that surround the lake!  However, buying a second home is also a large investment and you’ll want to make sure you’re completely prepared.  Below are five great tips to ensure you’re making the best decision when buying a second home.  Take a look!
1. Be Patient- When searching for a Deep Creek Lake home, take your time. Be patient and take time to discover the pros and cons of each lakefront or off lake home you visit.
2. Weigh the Pros and Cons- If you like something, don’t make any rash decisions. While it can be tempting to make a quick decision if you’re only visiting for a weekend, taking a few days to really consider the purchase will help ensure you’ve made the best decision.
3. Ask Yourself the Right Questions:
- How often will you visit and how much time will you spend there?
- Is it worth the money?
- What will the price appreciation be, realistically?
- How much will you have to pay every year for landscaping, association fees and taxes?
4. Don’t Try to Play the Market-  Home prices across the nation are some of the lowest that we’ve seen in a long time, so you’re bound to find a great deal.  As the market continues to improve, home prices will only increase.  Don’t wait!
5. Compare Mortgage Products- While the loan standards and rates are nearly the same for first and second homes, there can be unexpected changes if the lender considers your purchase an investment property.  Your interest rate could be pushed up 1.5 to 2 percentage points, so be aware and plan accordingly.  Oftentimes buyers will use the equity on their first home to make a down payment for their second home.  You’ll want to think through the best option for you, or talk with your Deep Creek Lake Real Estate agent about any other options.
