There's More to Discover on Deep Creek Lake!

Vacationing on Deep Creek Lake means you’re getting the best of outdoor activities as well as much needed relaxation!  Whether you’re planning on buying a vacation home or renting one of the beautiful homes on Deep Creek Lake; you’ve probably chosen Deep Creek Lake for a variety of reasons.  It’s rugged outdoor appeal is ideal for fishing, hiking, hunting, biking, water skiing, horseback riding and many other year round outdoor adventures!
In serving the Deep Creek Lake Real Estate market  with Coldwell Banker Deep Creek Realty, we enjoy talking with people who are passionate about being a part of the Deep Creek Lake community.  Vacationers come to me very excited about spending time out on the lake or taking in the trails and breathtaking setting of Deep Creek Lake State Park.  And rightfully so!  As Maryland’s largest fresh water lake and nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, Deep Creek Lake is a nature lovers’ paradise.
One of our goals as a Deep Creek Real Estate agent is to not only help people find a vacation home that they can enjoy for years to come, but also to get them acclimated to the community and their options for things to do!  Did you know that there’s much more to Deep Creek Lake than its outdoor activities?
If you wake up to a rainy day at Deep Creek Lake; you’ll be glad to know that you won’t have to spend your day wishing you had something to do.  My suggestion?  Take an afternoon or day trip to one of the great museums in the area!  You’ll not only have a fun time discovering these hands on museums, you’ll also learn more about Deep Creek Lake and its surroundings!

Here are three great museums you won’t want to miss!
Garrett County Historical Society Museum
107 South Second Street, Oakland MD
This beautiful museum, operated by the Garrett County Historical Society, will provide you with great insight into Garrett County’s past.  Learn how Garrett County came into existence and what life was like in earlier times.  You’ll discover Civil War items, period furniture displays and clothing, early American firearms, antique toys and much more!

Springs Museum
134 River Road, Springs, PA
If you’re looking for a fun day trip, venture just over the border to Springs Pennsylvania! The Springs Museum highlights folklore, artifacts and the rich history of the Casselman Valley.  You’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time as you view what school rooms, stores and churches looked like in the time of the early settlers.  You can also walk the short nature trail adjacent to the museum that allows you to learn more about the native and imported plants in the area!

Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center
Deep Creek Lake State Park

A favorite of visitors to Deep Creek Lake, the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center offers an interactive experience of the area!  Children enjoy putting their hand in an actual black bear paw print, touching fossils and viewing Deep Creek’s underwater ecology under a microscope.  Learn about Western Marylands wildlife, flora, fauna, culture and history!  Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center also features an aquarium with native fish and other aquatic features of our lake and rivers.  You’ll have a fun filled day with a wide variety of things to discover!
Whether you’re a first time vacationer to Deep Creek Lake, or have been coming here for years; I hope you take the time to visit one, or all, of these great museums!  If you have any questions about buying or renting a vacation home on Deep Creek Lake or about its lively community; I would be happy to talk with you!
