3 Types of Vacation Homes on Deep Creek Lake!

Buying a vacation home on Deep Creek Lake is an exciting time as you envision long, relaxing days out on the lake or peacefully lounging on your dock.  As a Deep Creek Lake Real Estate agent, I’ve met many potential buyers who seem to have the same gleam in their eye as they talk about their ideal vacation home, and I completely understand!  Deep Creek Lake is a fantastic place to soak in the much needed time away from it all!  

There are three types of Deep Creek Lake homes that are available, and I thought it’d be helpful to point out the differences.  As you consider buying a vacation home, it’s important to take into account your needs, lifestyle and budget.

It’s easy to understand why lakefront homes are the most popular choice.  Stunning views, convenient access for boating or swimming and other perks add up to a great vacation.  On Deep Creek Lake, lakefront homes and land are typically permitted for a Type A dock by the Department of Natural Resoures.  This allows two powerboats and one non-powerboat to be docked.  While a lakefront home on Deep Creek Lake is a number one choice for many, these homes will range from $500,000 to over $1,000,000 for prime properties.
Lake Access
For those of you who are hoping to take a less expensive approach to your vacation getaway, lake access homes are a great choice!  While they may not have the convenience of lakefront living, beautiful lake views and lake access are still bonus features of these lake access homes.   
Lake access entails being able to launch a boat weighing less than 500 pounds, as well having access for swimming.  This, however, should not be confused with properties who have been permitted to use a single boat slip at a common dock.  These properties have received a permit by the DNR, usually in conjunction with the Home Owners Association, to use a boat slip in which they also have the privileges that a lake access home would have.
Off Lake
Many Deep Creek Lake vacationers enjoy taking advantage of all that Garrett County has to offer, and choose to create their vacation home in one of the off lake properties.  If you enjoy soaking in the scenes of nature on vacation by taking a walk through the woods or along a river, an off lake home in the Deep Creek Lake area may be the ideal choice!  Garrett County has many beautiful homes from which to choose that tend to be more cost effective than the lakefront or lake access options.
